Have you ever dreamed of gazing down at Earth from the comfort of your room? As space travel becomes more accessible, companies plan to build the first-ever space hotel. Developers envision a rotating space station with artificial gravity that will provide stunning views of Earth and space.

While significant technical and safety hurdles remain, the idea of taking a vacation to visit space may not be science fiction for much longer. So pack your bags, as this article will give take you to the dawning space age of tourism.

The idea behind the space hotel: From dreams to reality

Inspired by sci-fi movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Interstellar, Voyager Station and Pioneer Station will be unique space hotels. They will use a spinning motion, like a Ferris wheel, to create artificial gravity through centrifugal force.

Even though they may look different from Earth hotels, the rooms and facilities onboard will feel familiar to regular travelers. Voyager Station will have luxurious accommodations for around 400 guests, including villas that can be purchased as vacation homes.

Essentially, it’s like a high-end resort, but in space! As for the timeline, the first space hotel, Voyager Station, will open in 2027. This means that about four years from now, the first space hotel will be ready for visitors to experience.

Overcoming cosmic challenges: Navigating the unknown

Creating space hotels comes with challenges that experts are working hard to overcome. In particular, ensuring guests’ safety in the unique space environment is a top priority. Experts are now developing astronaut training programs to prepare people for the conditions they will experience in space.

Additionally, space hotels require advanced technologies for their construction, transportation, and life support systems. Innovations are being developed to tackle the technical complexities of creating habitable environments in space.

Despite these obstacles, the teams are dedicated to finding solutions and making space hotels a reality for future adventurers and space enthusiasts.

What awaits in a space hotel

In a space hotel, get ready for an extraordinary and out-of-this-world experience! Here’s a glimpse of what awaits you:

Amenities and accommodation

The Voyager Station is designed to provide guests with all the comforts of a hotel. It offers amenities like a restaurant, gym, bar, entertainment center, and relaxation areas, similar to a resort.

As for food, guests at Voyager Station will enjoy specially-made “space food” designed for consumption in outer space. This is because regular food doesn’t work well in space due to the lack of gravity and changes in taste and smell. Hence, the hotel plans to improve its food menu over time to include various options available in hotels worldwide.

Regarding accommodations, Voyager Station offers more space than many Earth hotels. The space hotel is designed to accommodate up to 280 guests and 112 crew members, ensuring room for everyone.

On top of that, Voyager Station plans to invite renowned artists to perform at the hotel daily to keep guests entertained. While it’s uncertain who the first singer will be, the company’s executives have mentioned the possibility of Beyoncé. Regardless of the specific entertainer, visitors can expect high-quality entertainment during their stay at the hotel.

Transport and accessibility

Constructing a space hotel is a significant feat, but ensuring accessibility is equally essential to ponder. Orbital Assembly Corporation has thought about this and plans to work with another company for transportation. SpaceX Starship is considered the potential transportation provider, although the final decision hasn’t been made yet.

In fact, SpaceX has expertise in space missions, and partnering with them could greatly assist in making space tourism a reality. While details are still being worked out, Orbital Assembly Corporation intends to collaborate with SpaceX. You can hope that this partnership proposal is successful.

Bookings and cost

Although Voyager Station is not yet open, some information is already available about the space hotel, including its booking cost. While the organization has not officially announced the price, various sources estimate the booking price to be around US$5 million. This price is expected to cover a stay of approximately three days in the hotel.

Pondering the future of celestial hospitality

As you’ve seen, space tourism is no longer science fiction. Private companies are actively working to make extended stays in space a reality in the coming decades. While there are many technical and safety hurdles to overcome, the prospect of leisure travel beyond Earth’s borders is exciting.

The space hotel concept promises stunning views, a one-of-a-kind experience of microgravity and space travel, and a chance to witness the planet as only astronauts have seen it before. Though expensive at first, costs will likely drop over time. If you have the means and an adventurous spirit, staying at the world’s first space hotel could be the ultimate getaway.
