Located in Taiwan’s northernmost port city, Keelung, the Lido Deck Garden is a sky garden that combines nature, stunning ocean views, and technology in one extraordinary location. Though not large, the sky garden has greenery and vibrant plantings. A 250-meter wooden walkway winds along its flower gardens, inviting visitors to stroll through the sky oasis. On the spacious decks on the second and third floors, visitors can enjoy panoramic sea views that create the illusion of being on the deck of a cruise ship, surrounded by the ocean’s expanse.
Visitors are treated to stunning views of Keelung‘s most iconic structures from the sky garden. These include the newly established Keelung Tower, the Main Salvation Altar, the impressive statue of the goddess Guanyin in Zhengzheng Park, the Taiping Green Bird Bookstore, and the “KEELUNG” Landmark in Huzaishan, particularly the eagles soaring high in the sky above the harbor, etc.

It is also fun to watch merchant ships and cruises come and go, along with the beauty of the mountains on three sides. This view is especially captivating during sunset, when the horizon is bathed in hues of orange and purple, casting a warm glow over the entire harbor area. The gentle sea breeze adds to the tranquil ambiance, making the sky garden an ideal location to unwind and enjoy the view.
The playful art installations of Lido Deck Garden
As a vibrant mascot welcoming visitors to Keelung Harbor, the art installation titled Whale-Tranquil Afternoon (鯨魚–寧靜的午後/鯨艷基隆) celebrates Keelung’s rich marine culture and ecological heritage. This enchanting artwork portrays a young girl sleeping peacefully on a whale’s back while the whale gazes over the harbor with wide, watchful eyes. The piece symbolizes overseas travelers returning to the warm embrace of home, reflecting Keelung Harbor’s identity as a tranquil home port for cruise ships and evoking a sense of serenity and imagination.
Another striking art installation in the sky garden is a giant shell-shaped structure called Sea Snail — The Sound of the Sea (海螺-海的聲音). Serving as another welcoming mascot for Keelung Harbor, this piece embodies the act of listening to the sea. It symbolizes the heartfelt farewell of friends and family blowing a horn from the shore as ships depart and the warm call of loved ones awaiting the return of travelers.
These two art installations enhance the garden’s atmosphere, creating a delightful space for relaxation and inspiration. Visitors are drawn to their beauty and profound messages, often taking photographs to commemorate the experience, making them popular garden highlights.
The virtual AR installation at Lido Deck Garden
In addition to the stunning views, the sky garden’s unique feature is its use of virtual AR technology. By scanning the QR code and downloading the HoloRoam app, visitors can see virtual whale sharks, colorful fish, and other sea creatures swimming in the sky above them, creating an enchanting underwater experience. This vibrant, immersive environment allows visitors to enjoy a warm, romantic atmosphere alongside these majestic virtual creatures.
