History of the Yehliu Night Tours
To promote tourism along the North Coast in northern Taiwan’s New Taipei City, Yehliu Geopark Night Tours were first launched on a trial basis in April 1998. However, this spectacular event was limited to 500 people per night, and the admission fee was NT$200 (US$7) per person.
Sponsored by Taiwan Tourism Bureau’s North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration, this fascinating light show has since become one of the popular attractions in Taiwan.
In 2019, this light extravaganza was held in April. The number of visitors increased to 700 people per night. Visitors who bought tickets for the night tours were given a NT$50 (US$1.70) voucher, while those who booked the concert tickets were given a NT$200 (US$6.70) voucher to be used at 15 contracted hotels, restaurants, and shops along the North Coast.
In 2020, the Yehliu Night Tours were postponed for six months and were launched at the end of September due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was open to the public who carried any two Taiwan Government Uniform Invoices (統一發票), and all the invoices collected were donated to charity.
In 2021, the Night Tour activity was canceled due to COVID-19. In 2022, the fascinating night event was held again in April. The admission fee was NT$250 (US$8.30) per person, and those who purchased tickets were given a NT$50 (US$1.70) voucher to spend at the 28 contracted shops in the adjacent areas.
For the Yehliu Night Tours this year, the admission fee remains NT$250 (US$8.30) per person, and those who purchase tickets are given a NT$100 (US$3.30) voucher to spend at the 14 contracted shops at Yehliu Geopark.
Features of 2023 Yehliu Night Tours
The spectacle of Yehliu Geopark this year features eight lighting zones and four themed light shows. The lighting area has been extended to include the beach to make the light show even more attractive.
Upon walking along the colorful path to the Geopark, visitors’ attention is immediately caught by the interactive flowers of light and sparkling fluorescence. As visitors pass by or stand underneath the giant umbrella-like flowers, they will be surprised to see the flowers slowly bloom while the colorful patterned light projections on the floor rotate.
The most prominent feature of this year’s rendezvous is the 14-meter-high “Big Queen” circular water curtain fountain water dance show (Big Queen奇幻星空水世界) in the beach area. It is like a crown of light, adding extra glamor to the Geopark’s iconic Queen’s Head.
The four themed light shows of the 2023 Yehliu Night Tours
With the mushroom rocks grouped on the wave-cut platform as the background, the Cute Princess Rock seems to be immersed in the fantastic “Starry Sky Ocean Waltz (星空海洋圓舞曲)” at the “Cute Princess Zone (俏皮公主區).”
In the Queen’s Head Zone (女王頭區), visitors are mesmerized by the intertwined light and shadow, which are called the “Queen’s Secret of the Starry Sky (女王的星空秘境).
The “Fuli Garden Queen’s Feast (富麗花園女王盛宴)” in the Grass Zone (草地區) makes visitors feel like the Queen and the Cute Princess are romantically looking at each other to convey their love to the opposite side in the sparking kingdom of Yehliu Geopark.
Seeing the “Sea of Dreams (夢想之海)” in the Liying Lake Zone (儷影湖區), visitors are immersed in a misty, dreamlike atmosphere created by the light show over the shallow water and the water cascading under the picturesque bridge between two giant rock formations.
