Women are often perceived as physically weaker than men and less accustomed to confrontational situations. As a result, many women may freeze when faced with a robber. However, there are instances where women display courage and use their wits to outmaneuver criminals and escape unscathed. Here are some examples.
Woman lures and captures criminal after escape
In Dongguan, Guangdong, an 18-year-old girl named Xiao Zhan worked at a hair salon. Planning to return to her hometown, she decided to sublet her apartment and posted a rental ad online. A man in his twenties came to view the apartment, but his intentions were malicious. Upon entering, he grabbed Xiao Zhan by the neck and tied her hands and feet with a towel. After robbing her, he turned back, intending to assault her.
Initially, Xiao Zhan was nervous, but she calmed down and observed that the criminal was inexperienced — outwardly arrogant, but inwardly anxious. She decided to stabilize his emotions. Xiao Zhan, unfazed by the danger, cleverly played along. She leaned against him, feeling his rapid heartbeat, and said: “Don’t be nervous. I’m not nervous, so you shouldn’t worry about me running away.”
Under Xiao Zhan’s psychological tactics, the robber let his guard down. She suggested they go downstairs to eat and then withdraw money from an ATM, after which he could take a taxi and escape. The robber agreed to her plan. In the elevator, Xiao Zhan deliberately hooked her arm around his and leaned on his shoulder, which caught him off guard and made him forget he was committing a robbery. He said: “Don’t do this. Can you find a sense of security with me?” Xiao Zhan confidently replied: “Yes!”
When they reached the community gate and saw a security guard, Xiao Zhan seized the opportunity and called for help. The security guard apprehended the robber on the spot. Xiao Zhan’s calm handling of the situation, facing both robbery and attempted assault, truly makes her a heroine.
Woman drives into ditch to escape robbers
Around 5 p.m. one afternoon, a woman driving a Land Rover SUV arrived at a school to pick up her daughter. After her daughter got into the passenger seat, the woman was about to start the vehicle when two young men suddenly opened the back door and jumped into the SUV, brandishing knives and other weapons, and demanded she drive. They demanded 12 million yuan. Realizing they were robbers, the woman pretended to comply and followed their instructions. The SUV headed south and then along Changming Road towards Chang’an District.
Around 6 p.m., while driving through the Dazhao Street area in Chang’an District, the woman deliberately drove the car into a roadside ditch. With a loud crash, the SUV flipped over. Nearby residents, hearing the noise, rushed to help, and the woman seized the moment to shout: “Robbers! Robbers!” The two men quickly fled, and the woman called the police. The surrounding crowd, realizing the situation, immediately pursued the robbers. Fortunately, a mobile law enforcement station was nearby, and with everyone’s efforts, one robber was caught on the spot, while the other escaped in the chaos.
The woman’s daughter, a second-grader, was injured in the crash, but the airbags and side safety curtains deployed. Police arrived and took the mother and daughter to the hospital. The woman stated she did not know the two robbers, who had threatened her with a knife and gun during the ordeal. She remained calm throughout and used the crash to attract attention and escape.
