Kate Heart, the talented singer from Queensland, has a new single out. ‘Hold My Hand’, a harmonious “combination of pop ballad vibes layered on some gentle electronic beats”, as the artist describes it, has just been released and it is already captivating people’s hearts with its gentle tunes and beautiful lyrics.

After making the 2015 National Songwriting Awards Top 30 — a prestigious award receiving up to 3,000 entries per category — Kate Heart’s debut EP was released in October 2015 and was eagerly embraced by fans. Now, a few years later, the Queensland artist is ready for a new achievement.

Hold My Hand is autobiographic and very dear to Kate — she defines it as “cathartic.” This song is about her own healing process from a childhood trauma. “My soul and heart needed to be held,” she said in an interview. This single was written while Kate was “messing around with some chords” on her piano and “the music just flowed.” “Then I found a great producer Joel Myles from Head Atlas in Brisbane who helped bring the song to life.”

Kate Heart has been creative since a young age

Creativity has been a strong trait in this talented singer since a very young age. When asked what first got her into music, Kate Heart replied: “I participated in choirs and eisteddfods (i.e. first forms of musical competitions in Australia) in my hometown of Mackay, Queensland, from 5 years old. A cranky nun was very forceful when I was about 9 years old and made me sing a scale repetitively in front of a group of children. I couldn’t stop until I was loud enough. I sang through tears, but after it, I had this really powerful, strong voice.

“I’ve been writing my own songs since I was about 22 and have always written lots of poetry growing up. I think when you are creative, making art is just something that is part of who you are and if you don’t do it, it feels like something is missing from your life.”

Her success, however, did not come smoothly and, like most artists, she had to face rejection. Her passion and resilience helped her through the creative process up to the new single. An artist she would love to collaborate with is Fred Again, whose song I adore you is among her top three listening suggestions.

To the question “What is next for you?”, Kate answered: “Immediately, I have a music video premiere on Friday 15 September and I will keep promoting the single as much as possible. Intermediately, I will head back to the studio and record some more songs. I have two songs I’d like to record and release soon. I am always refining my live set, and looking for opportunities to showcase my music.”

Meanwhile – fun fact – in the shower, the artist sings “lots of different songs. One of my go-to songs would be Adele’s version of Make Me Feel Your Love.”

Despite her achievements, Kate Heart remains well-grounded and looks at her future from a positive and humble perspective: “I’m not sure I’ve become a musician yet. I am a Pilates teacher. I co–own a Pilates education business. I’ve worked in the health and fitness industry for 20 years. I’m very grateful to have a career I absolutely love. I make music in my spare time and gig whenever I can.” Kate recognizes that becoming an accomplished artist able to earn a living from one’s own creations is not always easy. She wishes that in the music industry, there was “less free streaming and more paid downloading”, which would definitely give artists more chance to create and develop.

For sure, Kate Heart is talented, passionate, and resilient — key features to have on the journey toward success.
