With its friendly atmosphere, colorful setting, and authentic island charm, Chamorro Village remains a beloved destination for those seeking to experience the culture, creativity, and community spirit of Guam.

History of Chamorro Village
Chamorro Village was established in the early 1990s by the Guam government as part of an initiative to promote and preserve the island’s indigenous Chamorro heritage. The site was developed to support local artisans, farmers, and small businesses by providing a central location to showcase their crafts, foods, and traditions.
Inspired by the open-air markets once common in island villages, Chamorro Village was designed to reflect the spirit of community gathering and cultural exchange. Over the years, it has evolved into a cherished landmark, particularly renowned for its weekly night market. Today, it stands as both a cultural center and a living tribute to Guam’s rich history and native identity. The following are some highlights of the performances celebrating the 81st Liberation Day at the Chamorro Village Night Market this year.

Mahiga Dance Academy: A celebration of the Chamorro spirit
One of the standout performances at Guam’s 81st Liberation Day celebration in Chamorro Village came from the Mahiga Dance Academy. Known for their commitment to preserving and promoting Chamorro culture, the group delivered a heartfelt and visually striking performance that blended traditional and contemporary dance. Dressed in vibrant costumes inspired by island heritage, the dancers moved in perfect unison — each step and gesture telling a story of resilience, pride, and community. Their expressive movements, radiant smiles, and synchronized choreography captivated the audience, earning enthusiastic applause and elevating the festive atmosphere.

With dynamic routines full of rhythm and cultural symbolism, Mahiga’s performance was more than entertainment —it was a living tribute to Guam’s identity. Their modern take on traditional island wear, confident stage presence, and joyful energy filled the space with life and meaning. Every detail of their performance, from the fluid arm gestures to the powerful footwork, showcased their discipline, passion, and a deep connection to their heritage. As the crowd swayed along, cheered, or recorded the moment, it was clear that Mahiga Dance Academy had not only impressed but also deeply moved their audience —bringing Chamorro culture to life through art.
A majestic musical tribute at Chamorro Village
Among the highlights of Guam’s Liberation Day festivities at Chamorro Village was the powerful performance by the Falun Dafa Tian Guo Marching Band and Waist Drum Team. The Tian Guo Marching Band delivered a powerful and uplifting performance during Guam’s Liberation Day festivities at Chamorro Village. Comprising 60 members from Taiwan and 20 from Japan, the band donned striking blue-and-white Tang-style uniforms, complete with traditional headpieces and polished black boots.

Their performance showcased a distinctive blend of traditional Chinese musical elements and a Western marching style. The band played stirring renditions of both classical and contemporary pieces, including Falun Dafa Hao and The Stars and Stripes Forever. This marked the band’s third visit to Guam for the Liberation Day celebrations, having also participated in 2008 and 2024. The band and its members, all of whom are Falun Dafa practitioners, aim to share a message of hope, harmony, and positivity with their audiences.
Chamorro Village echoes with the joyful rhythms of the Waist Drum Team
Adding to the vibrant celebration was the Falun Dafa Waist Drum Team. Though smaller in size, the team’s rhythmic drumming and vibrant energy infused the event with joyful enthusiasm.

Dressed in bright, coordinated attire, the drummers moved in perfect unison, drawing warm applause from residents and tourists alike. Their colorful presentation and infectious spirit brought a unique cultural element to the festivities, complementing the marching band’s musical tribute. Together, the two groups offered a moving and harmonious performance that honored Guam’s history and created a beautiful bridge between cultures.
