Ni Haishu (1954-2012), born in Taipei, Taiwan, was not only a skilled physician, but also a master of foretelling the future, renowned for combining medical expertise with profound insight into human life. Throughout his lifetime, his extraordinary abilities and boundless compassion enabled him to save many lives, guiding people through both physical illness and unforeseen misfortune.
Foreseeing danger
One day, the well-known actress Peng Xuefen visited Ni Haishu at his home. After examining her birth chart, Ni Haishu spoke gravely: “Within six months, your husband will face a great calamity.” Sure enough, six months later, his prediction came true.
One fateful day, Peng Xuefen’s husband, Wu Dongliang — the heir to Taiwan’s Shin Kong Group conglomerate — was abducted. As he stepped out of his car upon returning home, he was struck from behind, knocked unconscious, and taken away. The kidnappers soon contacted the family, demanding an enormous ransom of one hundred million dollars. To avoid police surveillance, they insisted the payment be made in two separate installments, warning that any refusal or delay would result in his immediate execution.

Upon receiving the call, Peng Xuefen immediately recalled Ni Haishu’s earlier warning and sought his guidance the very next day. Ni Haishu cast a divination for her. After studying the hexagram, he advised her firmly: “Do not cooperate with the police. Comply fully with the kidnappers’ demands. Once they receive the money, they will not harm him. Your husband will return safely, and the matter will be resolved. But if you refuse their demands, your husband’s fate will be grim.”
Peng Xuefen trusted Ni Haishu completely. She found a way to evade police surveillance and went alone to meet the kidnappers, carrying the ransom herself. In the end, Wu Dongliang was released unharmed and returned home safely.
This ordeal transformed their lives. Peng Xuefen’s in-laws, who had once looked down on her because of her career as an actress, finally accepted her. The couple, having faced life and death together, discovered a deeper love through adversity. Their bond grew stronger than gold, and they remained devoted to one another ever after.
However, the story did not end there. This astronomical ransom case became a major investigation, and the police were on high alert. Wu’s house was surrounded by officers inside and out. Peng Xuefen’s evasion of the police infuriated the authorities — could the kidnappers really escape justice? Fortunately, justice prevailed. Despite the kidnappers’ meticulous planning, they failed to account for the fingerprint left on Wu Dongliang’s phone. Following this lead, the police swiftly tracked down the ringleader, Hu Guanbao. The entire criminal gang was finally apprehended, and the Wu family’s money was returned intact. Only then was the matter truly resolved.
A prediction that stood the test of time
In 2016, a patient visited Taipei’s Han Tang Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic, suffering from headaches so severe that he could not sleep. The pain had become unbearable, affecting his daily life and leaving him exhausted. Such a condition should not have been difficult to treat, yet the practitioners had tried every method and experimented with multiple herbal formulas — none of which brought relief.
As the patient grew increasingly frustrated, he suddenly recalled a remarkable encounter from thirty years earlier. Ni Haishu had once read his fortune and given him a written prediction, which he had carefully kept over the decades. Desperate for a solution, he retrieved the paper and opened it. To his astonishment, it clearly stated that thirty years later he would experience headaches severe enough to prevent sleep, and that a simple adjustment of the position of his bedhead would resolve the issue.
Following the advice, the patient adjusted his bedhead as instructed. That very night, he was able to sleep soundly for the first time in months, free from the relentless pain that had plagued him. This experience not only relieved his physical suffering but also reinforced the remarkable accuracy of Ni Haishu’s insight, a testament to his extraordinary abilities and deep understanding of both human health and destiny.

Healing with compassion and insight
Ni Haishu was also a master of “preventive medicine.” Today, his legacy is preserved through his official website, which features deeply moving stories that illustrate the ancient medical principle of “treating illness before it manifests” and embody the spirit of “the compassionate heart of a physician.”
One notable case involved a female patient suffering from lupus erythematosus — a condition considered virtually untreatable in Western medicine — who turned to him for help. Ni Haishu successfully treated her, leaving the patient deeply grateful.
Unexpectedly, three months later, she returned. This time, she suffered from severe coughing, producing copious amounts of clear, foamy phlegm, and felt a tightness in her chest. Ni Haishu asked what had happened recently. She explained that her daughter was unwell, but they could not afford medical care, which caused her great distress.
Ni Haishu asked, “If I cure your daughter’s illness without charging you, would you still worry?” The patient happily replied, “Of course not!” Ni Haishu said, “Then bring your daughter here. I have a large financial group backing me, providing funds so I can treat those in need free of charge. You can bring her with confidence.” The patient was so overjoyed that she shed tears. Ni Haishu prescribed some cough medicine, and she left happily.
However, Ni Haishu broke out in a cold sweat, realizing the gravity of the situation. The patient’s grief had already begun to damage her lungs — a precursor to lung cancer — which explained why her phlegm was white and frothy. Had she consulted a Western doctor, it might have taken two years to diagnose her condition. Fortunately, she had encountered Ni Haishu.
He first addressed her emotional distress through free treatment, transforming her sorrow into joy to remove the root cause of her illness. Then he used herbal formulas to regulate her body, enabling her recovery. Throughout the process, the patient remained unaware of the full extent of his methods, and Ni Haishu never explained them.
Ni Haishu’s life and work remind us that true healing goes beyond medicine — it combines insight, empathy, and an unwavering dedication to others’ well-being. Whether predicting calamities, guiding families through crises, or addressing ailments that baffle modern medicine, he demonstrated that a compassionate heart, profound wisdom, and preventive care can transform lives. His legacy is a testament to the enduring power of skill guided by virtue, and to the profound difference one person can make when knowledge and kindness are united.
