The Wanli-Jinshan Bikeway is a scenic coastal cycling route along Taiwan’s northern coast, connecting Wanli and Jinshan Districts in New Taipei City. Stretching approximately 12 kilometers, the path is mostly paved with a mix of asphalt and concrete, and can be completed in about 1 to 2 hours. The route is divided into two sections: the Jinshan section (from Zhongjiao Bay to the Taipower Wanli Visitor Center, about 6.4 km) and the Wanli section (from the Nuclear Power Plant No. 2 to Yuantan River Scenic Bridge, about 5 km). With its relatively gentle terrain, it is ideal for families and those seeking a relaxed ride.

A ride where the mountains meet the sea
The true charm of this route lies in its seamless blend of coastal scenery and cultural landmarks. At times, the horizon opens to vast ocean views where sky meets sea; at others, the trail winds through shaded groves, offering a tranquil and refreshing atmosphere. It’s a journey that invites you to slow down and savor the beauty along the way.
A green tunnel and the Taipower landmark
The journey begins along a shaded “green tunnel” across from Taipower Nuclear Power Plant No. 2, where tree-lined paths create a calm and pleasant start. At the entrance to the Taipower exhibition hall stands a large low-pressure turbine rotor. Visitors can also enter the center free of charge, and even head upstairs to the scenic café to enjoy an ice pop or a cup of coffee while taking in sweeping ocean views and the distant Yehliu Cape.

A soothing stop at Dapeng Foot Spa Park
Further along the route lies Wanli Dapeng Foot Spa Park, a perfect place to rest and recharge. The park features free foot baths, a small shop selling drinks and snacks, and even the chance to cook your own hot spring eggs. Soaking your feet in warm water with a gentle sea breeze is a wonderfully relaxing experience.

Seascapes at Shuiwei Scenic Park
Continuing on, Shuiwei Scenic Park offers expansive coastal views and a striking landmark — a ship-shaped bridge perfect for photos. It is also a prime spot for sunrise viewing and distant views of Yehliu’s coastline. At night, the nearby fishing village becomes the setting for the poetic “Moonlight over Shuiwei (水尾泛月),” one of Jinshan’s famed Eight Scenic Views.

Exploring Yixiantian and the Mysterious Coast
From here, a short walk via steps near the fishing harbor leads to the “Thread of Sky,” also known as “One-Line Sky” (一線天), and the Mysterious Coast. The narrow sea-eroded passage allows only one person through at a time; upon exiting, the view suddenly opens to reveal dramatic rock formations and a stunning seascape. Along the shore, unique geological features such as tofu rocks and honeycomb rocks are visible, with the iconic Twin Candlestick Islets in the distance.

Journey’s end at Zhongjiao Bay Surfing Base
At the other end of the route lies Zhongjiao Bay International Surfing Base. Its crescent-shaped sandy beach and consistent waves make it one of northern Taiwan’s premier surfing spots. With well-equipped facilities, it’s an ideal place to stroll, relax, or enjoy a drink at a seaside café while watching the sunset paint the ocean in golden hues.

Overall, the Wanli-Jinshan Bikeway brings together nature, ecology, and cultural landscapes. Whether cycling or strolling, visitors can find their own rhythm between mountains and sea, creating a journey filled with relaxation, beauty, and lasting memories.
