Fang Bin, a Chinese citizen journalist who exposed the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) ‘s lies during the Wuhan (COVID-19) virus lockdown, was finally released from prison after being detained by the CCP for three years. However, because of his brave act, he was not allowed to return home and was forced by the CCP to live on the street.
In the eyes of the CCP, Fang Bin is viewed as a troublemaker. But in the eyes of those who pursue freedom and justice, he is a spark in the darkness.
Forced into homelessness
On April 30, 2023, when Fang Bin was released, officials gave his relatives in Wuhan advance notice to be prepared to “guard” him upon his release. However, when he left the prison gate in the cold morning, only the Wuhan local police were waiting for him.
It turned out they had changed their minds about allowing Fang Bin to remain in Wuhan with his relatives and, instead, decided to pick him up and then forcibly take him to Beijing.
After being taken to Beijing, Fang Bin’s son met up with him, and the two men had a reunion dinner. After exiting prison, his son bought him several clothing sets since he didn’t have anything.
The Wuhan police’s new plan was to allow Fang Bin to live in his son’s home, but the Beijing police decided they did not want this so-called troublemaker in their city either. So immediately after meeting with his son, Fang Bin was again forcibly driven away and put on a high-speed train back to Wuhan.
Fang Bin is over 60 years old and was born in Wuhan. He graduated from Wuhan Jiaotong University, and his wife Feng Yunqing is also an alumnus of the same university. The couple had their own home in Beijing, but around 2010, Fang Bin was forced to leave Beijing, and after several twists and turns, he moved in with his sister in Wuhan, where he opened a Hanfu shop and has since been living.
On May 1, 2023, Fang Bin arrived in Wuhan and met with his relatives waiting for him. An anonymous person told Radio Free Asia that the CCP police did not allow him to be interviewed by the media, nor was he allowed to post videos. The items in his Hanfu store have also long since disappeared.
Additionally, Fang Bin’s relatives have been threatened by the CCP authorities, so they were too frightened to take him in. Therefore, from the night he returned to Wuhan, he was forced to live destitute on the streets.
The police would not allow him to contact the outside world, and judicial personnel closely tracked and monitored his every move. People familiar with the matter said that judicial officials in Wuhan met overnight to discuss removing Fang Bin and preventing him from staying there.
Fang Bin may not have expected to be homeless when he got out of prison, but he knew why this happened. In his view, the CCP regime is evil, and not even the pandemic’s cruelty can match the CCP’s brutality.
Why is the CCP so afraid of Fang Bin?
On February 1, 2020, during the COVID lockdown in Wuhan, Fang Bin went to Wuhan Fifth Hospital alone to film a video of the funeral unit’s collection of corpses. He posted the video online, exposing the CCP’s cover-up of the pandemic, resulting in significant repercussions for Fang Bin at home and abroad.
That night, the Wuhan police stormed Fang Bin’s house and framed him for being bought by “foreign anti-China forces.” The thinking of the police was: “If you were not bought, you would not have made the video.” He was forcibly dragged out of his house and shoved into a police car.
Fang Bin was the first Wuhan resident to come forward regarding the CCP’s cover-up of the pandemic, and he was also the only person who publicly criticized the CCP’s tyranny as the root cause of things getting out of control during the lockdown.
A few hours after Fang Bin was arrested, the Wuhan police, under substantial public pressure, were essentially forced to rerelease him. He thanked those who followed his video, saying: “Because of your attention and spreading the news, I can be safe.”
Fang Bin believed that by releasing the truth about the epidemic, he was doing a good deed for the people and the country. However, the CCP did not want their lies exposed. The police told Fang Bin: “There can only be one voice in China,” and that must be the voice of the CCP.
Exposing the CCP’s abuse of power
Once people are awakened, they do not want to be confused anymore. In a February 7, 2020 video, Fang Bin denounced the CCP for abusing their power, being arrogant and greedy, and negatively impacting the world.
Dr. Li Wenliang, another whistleblower, died in the early hours of the same day, February 7, 2020. When Fang Bin heard the news, he could not hide his grief and anger, saying: “Today’s Wuhan pneumonia is both a natural disaster and a manufactured disaster, and stupid policies have caused the epidemic to spread and get out of control. The Communist Party must bear the consequences. The cruelty of the virus is far less than the cruelty of their tyranny, and the root of the virus is tyranny.”
He called on the people to resist and for the government to be returned to the people.
On February 10, 2020, the police once again abducted Fang Bin from his home in Wuhan, and up until now, there has been no news on him or his whereabouts for the last three years.
On April 23, 2023, on the eve of Fang Bin’s release from prison, the world’s first “Whistleblower Monument” was unveiled at Liberty Sculpture Park in California.
In the grassy desert, just off Interstate 15, a 3-meter-high monument was erected topped by a giant whistle. The sculptor has said their wish is that it can ignite the hope of changing the land of China and restoring it to the people.
