Mr. Li Youfu is a cross-disciplinary genius, excelling as a martial arts champion and renowned medical expert. While he has a master’s degree in martial arts and a doctorate in traditional Chinese medicine from China and the United States, he has another particular skill that’s not commonly seen today — supernormal abilities.

Remote diagnosis

What Li Youfu was most famous for is his “remote diagnosis” abilities while he was in China. That is, without touching a patient, he can diagnose what disease a person has and where the lesion is by looking at him from afar. He has collaborated with several hospitals and universities in Beijing in studies on remote diagnosis and has seen more than 4,000 patients, with an accuracy rate of nearly 100 percent.

There was an elderly Chinese medicine doctor who refused to believe in Li’s abilities, and one day came to challenge him. Li Youfu glanced at him and asked: “Do you have coronary heart disease, a duodenal ulcer, and arthritis in your right leg?” The old Chinese medicine doctor was stunned and couldn’t speak for a while. Finally, he slammed his hands on the table and said: “From now on, I believe in qigong!”

Li Youfu’s reputation has gradually spread, and many high-level officials in Beijing, including the president, ministers, and generals, have asked him to diagnose their illnesses. Li has been able to diagnose complicated diseases, which could only be detected by expensive equipment, with just one glance.

Former Chinese Air Force Major General Liu Yazhou asked Li to diagnose his wife’s health and called Li Xiaolin remotely. Li Youfu accurately pointed out that she had insomnia as well as an injury to her right leg. General Liu said the insomnia was correct, but he wasn’t aware of any damage to her leg.

However, Li Youfu insisted that the leg injury had to be accurate if he was right about her insomnia. General Liu called his wife and found out she had been injured in a car accident the previous year, but had not told him of the injury.

As a result, from high-level officials to the general public, many people have begun to believe that qigong is an actual science. Later, Qian Xuesen proposed a new concept called “human body science.” Let’s look at how Li Youfu’s remote diagnosis abilities can be explained from the perspective of human body science.

A calm mind is key

When asked about his abilities, Li Youfu replied that the secret to his abilities lies in a calm mind and the palm of his hand.

Each part of the human hand corresponds to a different organ in the body. By examining the hand, one can detect a variety of sensations, such as coldness, heat, swelling, pain, and numbness. If a person’s hand corresponds to the organs in their body, one can uncover where the patient’s illness is located. How is Li able to establish this correspondence? There is no secret trick; you must calm your mind.

Anyone can develop this skill with a calm, peaceful mind and heart. However, this is no simple feat; one cannot achieve it just because one wants to. It requires cultivating a calm and empty mind, which is never easy.

“When the mind is truly calm, more human functions can be unlocked,” said Li. For example, the “heavenly eye,” also known as the “celestial eye,” allows Li Youfu to see scenes in another space and even see a person’s past life.

In 1987, Li Youfu began collaborating with some traditional Chinese medicine hospitals and research institutions in Beijing to research reincarnation with children with unique abilities. The experiments were performed using a very rigorous method called double-blind testing. In one experiment, different people were asked to see the past lives of the same person.

The people who took the test didn’t meet each other, and some were even in different cities — but what they saw was often surprisingly consistent. What does this mean? It means that what they saw was likely the truth.

For example, one person was a well-known editor. Li Youfu used his heavenly eye to see that his past life was an animal resembling a lion, but with less fur. Another child noticed that the editor’s past life was a qilin. Aren’t the two answers quite similar?

Li Youfu said he once met a patient who had excruciating pain from his lower back to the back of his legs every day, but after examination by doctors, no disease could be found. He suffered from this pain for a long time. It turned out that in his past life, he was an official who often tortured people into confessing by brutalizing their legs, so in this life, his legs had to suffer the same torture.

According to Buddhist beliefs, the cause of the pain in this lifetime could be found in the things he’d done in his past life.
