Facing serious illness is a frightening experience for many people. Numerous factors can make us susceptible to disease, and among them, cancer is often the most feared.
The energy we carry
Dr. David R. Hawkins (1927-2012) was a renowned American physician, psychiatrist, spiritual teacher, and researcher of consciousness. Over his career, he treated countless patients from around the world, including those with cancer. Hawkins observed that many people became ill not solely due to physical factors, but because they lacked love and were consumed by pain and despair. According to his research, when a person’s energy frequency fell below 200, they became more vulnerable to illness.
After more than 20 years of study, Hawkins concluded that the human body possesses energy fields that reflect our mental, emotional, and spiritual states. He developed a scale mapping values, attitudes, and emotions to levels of consciousness on a logarithmic scale from 1 to 1,000. On this scale, 200 is a critical threshold: below it, people are often dominated by fear, anger, or despair — states that drain energy and can contribute to physical illness.

Hawkins also noticed patterns in those who fell ill. People who harbored negative thoughts — complaining, blaming, or holding hatred — often registered energy frequencies as low as 30-40. Constantly criticizing others or dwelling on negativity further depleted their energy, leaving them more susceptible to health problems.
Individuals with energy frequencies below 200 were more prone to illness, while those above 200 tended to remain relatively healthy. This principle is explored in Hawkins’ book Power vs. Force.
He also noted that the highest recorded frequency was 700. People at this level possess exceptionally strong energy, capable of influencing the energy field of a space simply by being present. For example, when Mother Teresa, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, appeared at the award ceremony, the atmosphere reportedly became uplifting, radiating a remarkably high vibration. Everyone present felt her energy, filled with beauty, love, and positive emotion.
The importance of mindset
When people harbor persistent negative thoughts, they not only harm themselves but also create a depleted energy field around them. Dr. David R. Hawkins conducted extensive research, surveying diverse populations worldwide, and consistently found that individuals with a vibration frequency above 200 tended to remain healthier and more resilient.
Those who cultivate compassion, kindness, tolerance, and gentleness can reach vibration frequencies of 400-500. Conversely, individuals consumed by hatred, anger, resentment, blame, jealousy, or selfishness often exhibit very low vibration frequencies. According to Hawkins, these low vibrations can contribute to serious illnesses, including cancer and heart disease, highlighting the profound connection between emotional state and physical health.

From a medical and psychological perspective, Hawkins’s studies suggest that our thoughts and emotions exert measurable influence on the body. One notable example involves a Japanese cellist diagnosed with cancer. Initially, he resisted the illness, and his condition worsened. Eventually, he chose to shift his mindset, embracing every cancer cell in his body with love. He perceived the pain as a “wake-up call,” sending blessings to the cells and expressing gratitude for every aspect of his life, including people and experiences. Over time, his cancer disappeared, and he later became a respected therapist in Japan, sharing his understanding of healing through consciousness.
Hawkins emphasized that love is the essence of life. It has the power to dissolve negativity, restore vitality, and bring balance to both mind and body. Cultivating positive emotions — such as gratitude, forgiveness, and generosity — does more than improve mental well-being; it strengthens our energy field, fosters resilience, and supports long-term health.
Ultimately, the research and stories compiled by Hawkins remind us that our inner world matters as much, if not more, than the external one. By consciously nurturing kindness, compassion, and positive thoughts, we can create an energy environment that not only protects our health but also enhances our capacity to experience joy, connection, and meaning in life.
The mind is not just a passenger in our health — it is a powerful force that can shape it.
