Have you ever heard of coincidences in drowning? One story in the book The World’s Most Incredible Stories highlights how three people were connected in a most unusual way.

It rarely happens when you meet someone randomly and then meet them again later. Even rarer is the possibility of meeting someone you saved under different circumstances. How about if the person you saved suddenly saved someone you loved from drowning? This would make the coincidence stand out even more.

One of the stories in the book reveals three individuals connected by two incidents, years apart, involving saving someone from drowning.

The summer of 1965 in Salem, Massachusetts

The story starts in Salem, Massachusetts, in the summer of 1965, when Roger Lousier, at 4 years old, was playing on the beach. At first, he was building sandcastles, but later on, he decided to wander to the water. It wasn’t long until he was caught in a strong undercurrent and desperately fought for his life.

Not knowing how to swim, he tried to cry out, but the water sucked into his lungs. A moment right before he was about to drown, strong arms grabbed him. A woman carried him to shore. Roger’s parents had blamed themselves for taking their eyes off their son for a moment. They thanked her immensely. Her name was Alice Blaise. Roger never forgot her.

How Lousier responded to the events of that day

Instead of running away from it, Lousier, with the help of his family, decided to learn more about swimming to avoid the situation happening again. By age 13, nine years after the incident, Lousier reportedly became a strong swimmer and regularly swam. Then, one day, another coincidental situation happened. This time, Lousier came to the rescue.

Lousier saved another person from drowning

Lousier was tracking a school of fish when he suddenly heard a woman scream. The woman was asking for help because her husband was drowning. Lousier responded as quickly as possible and jumped into action. He did this by paddling his inflatable raft toward the position of the struggling man.

Lousier made his way to the man and was able to hang on to him. This prevented the man from sinking any further and drowning. During this time, Lousier had no idea who the woman and her husband were.

The coincidental reunion

At the hospital, the woman was highly thankful to Lousier for saving her husband’s life, and during that time, the connection was still unknown. Then, however, Roger suddenly learned that the person he saved was Bob Blaise, the wife of Alice Blaise, who saved him nine years earlier.

Finally, the three of them were aware of the situation and how Alice Blaise’s initial act of saving Lousier when he was young led to him holding her husband later. The events also took place at the same Salem beach, nine years apart, in a completely unexpected manner.

A twist of fate

The story shows how life can be peculiar at times, with coincidences that reconnect people that had no business reconnecting otherwise. Lousier reconnected with Alice Blaise in the most unexpected fashion possible by saving her husband. As the family of Lousier was thankful to Alice Blaise for saving him when he was younger, so were Alice and her husband Bob when Lousier rescued Bob.

In an interesting twist of fate, it’s hard to say if this was destiny. However, it shows a strong coincidence of how one good act leads to another.
