A lie is a lie, and a lie repeated ten thousand times cannot become the truth. It is easy to deceive those inside the Great Wall of China, but challenging to deceive those outside. The overseas experience of an ordinary Chinese citizen finally made him realize that a Communist Party member is a derogatory term!
On September 15, Zhang Yupu published an article in the foreign media, describing himself as a member of the generation “born under the red flag and raised in the new society.” In the article, he described his journey from mistakenly believing that joining the Communist Party of China (CPC) was a “special honor” to finally realizing that the term “Communist Party member” carries a derogatory meaning overseas.
A foreign affairs teacher’s remark ‘shocked me to my core!’
In 1982, Zhang Yupu attended a six-month training course for overseas students at the Dalian Foreign Language Institute. The teacher of the general knowledge course was Mr. Wang, an official of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Ministry of Education. In class, Mr. Wang told the students that when applying for visas to the United States or other countries, they might encounter the question “Are you a member of the Nazi Party or the Communist Party?” and that they must answer “no.”

This was the first time in his life that Zhang had heard that the “honorable” title of communist was a derogatory term in other countries, and he was stunned!
What happened to Suzuki was a lesson for Zhang Yupu
Between 1985 and 1988, when Zhang was studying for his doctorate at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Tsukuba in Japan, a young Professor Suzuki became a close personal friend of Zhang’s. Suzuki was a member of the Japanese Communist Party.
In 1986, Suzuki applied for a one-year study program in the United States, but was refused a visa by the United States Embassy because he was a member of the Communist Party. This was the first case of a Communist Party member being denied entry into the United States that Zhang Yupu witnessed.
Zhang also revealed: “Most of the people who left the country before me were recommended by the government, and most of them were members of the Communist Party. But when they filled out the forms to go abroad, they all hid their membership in the party because they had received training abroad.”
In other words, one of the essential elements of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) foreign affairs personnel training is to teach expatriates to lie when applying for visas and to conceal their true identities as CCP members to get across the border.

During his stay in Japan, Zhang Yupu encountered a rare incident. He received a notice from the CCP embassy stating that all CCP members who had traveled abroad for an extended period at their own expense would be regarded as having temporarily disassociated themselves from the party, and that they would need to apply for reinstatement of their party membership upon returning to their home countries.
He later learned that the reason for this practice was that some CCP members liked to act in a high-profile manner, denying their CCP membership when filling out visa application forms abroad, and then flaunting their “proud” membership status after leaving the country, which led to their denunciation. As a result, Zhang Yupu was denounced and expelled by the foreign government for the offense of cheating the customs.
Obviously, the CCP’s rogue tactic of “covering up and then recovering” violates the CCP’s constitution, and it is an even greater deception to other countries.
The real ‘communist’ to U.S. customs officials
In 1995, Zhang Yupu immigrated to the United States and met a Western neighborhood friend who had worked in the U.S. Customs Service for many years. When Zhang asked him why there was a clause in the visa application form that “discriminated against communists,” his neighbor said: “The language in the openly printed clause is very polite, and there is even stricter wording within the department: ‘Criminals, communists, and drug traffickers are not welcome to come to the U.S.'”
This shows that the internal policy standards of the U.S. customs officials equate communists with criminals and drug smugglers.
