A large livable transparent bubble tent has drifted from the world of fantasy novels into Australia’s own Grand Canyon, nestled between Lithgow and Mudgee, roughly 135 km northwest of Sydney.
As a VT editor in Australia, I was lucky enough to escape into the tranquility of this private “bubble tent” to experience inner peace and freedom while drinking in the breathtaking outback scenery.

A Bubble Tent is an off-grid pop-up glamping tent powered by a combination of eco-friendly battery-powered turbines and solar energy. The transparent PVC dome, 3.5 meters in diameter, houses a luxe interior equipped with a large cushy bed and an enclosed bathroom. The outdoor area includes a large outdoor stove, sofa, lounge chair, and hammock.

Escape from the hustle and bustle of busy city life into the remoteness of the Australian outback. Shielded from the elements, you can lie back in your bubble tent and absorb the majestic view of the great sandstone monolith against the backdrop of the ever-changing horizon — from misty morning sunrises to ocean blue skies and dark starry nights. You may even be greeted by some of Australia’s rarest birds.

After a nighttime bonfire and a glass of red wine, you can connect with the mysteries of the stars and explore the constellations through the iPad’s simulated sky exploration program, and even take a ride in the International Space Station.
Capertree Valley
Known as Australia’s answer to the Grand Canyon, this colossal natural sculpture ranks second in size only to Tibet’s Yarlung Tsangpo Canyon. This ancient monument dates back millions of years and is embedded with the cultural imprints of the area’s original inhabitants, the Wiradjuri people.

The canyon is home to a magnificent array of wildlife, and is listed as one of the world’s 50 “Important Bird Areas.” Various recreational and tourist sites — including national parks, wineries, and Lake Lyell — are all within an hour’s drive.
