Nestled in the Shimen District of New Taipei City in northern Taiwan, Happiness Twin-Hearts Park is a delightful coastal destination that blends local tradition with imaginative design. Covering approximately 2,600 square meters (0.64 acres), the park draws inspiration from Shimen’s centuries-old qiangu fishing method (Taiwanese Beach Seine, 牽罟) and the symbolic theme of “Happy Shimen,” making it both a scenic retreat and a cultural showcase.

Officially opened on May 7, 2022, the park sits at the intersection of Provincial Highway 2 (the Tamsui-Jinshan Coastal Road) and Laomei Road. It is bordered by the Fujih Civic Activity Center and partially enclosed by a tranquil walking path known as the Happiness Trail.

Art, lights, and local stories of Shimen
The park’s stunning centerpiece is the Qiangu Dream-Weaving Net, a large-scale art installation made of stainless steel frames and colorful glass panels. As sunlight streams through, it casts a dazzling interplay of light and shadow, evoking the glimmer of fishing nets swaying over the sea.

In addition to this visual marvel, visitors can enjoy a range of interactive and playful features, including a conch-shaped sculpture, the Lighthouse Man Plaza, a whimsical boat, and adorable dolphin installations. The conch-shaped sculpture, in particular, allows visitors to speak into one end and hear their voices naturally amplified, just like calling out to the sea. These creative elements breathe new life into Shimen’s fishing heritage, making it fun and engaging for all ages.

Whimsical details and photo-worthy spots
Scattered across the park’s grassy open space are charming green dolphin sculptures and a colorfully painted fishing boat — perfect for photos and family fun. A standout attraction is a series of black-and-white cartoon-style lighthouse men sculptures, humorously depicting scenes from traditional qiangu fishing life. These installations offer a lighthearted yet meaningful glimpse into the coastal communities of the past.

Beauty with purpose: A park that protects
Beyond aesthetics, Twin-Hearts Park is designed with environmental care in mind. It features a flood detention pond with a capacity of 300 cubic meters, which reduces the risk of downstream flooding, mitigates stormwater runoff, and allows for sediment settling. The thoughtful integration of beauty and function highlights the park’s commitment to both sustainability and community well-being.

Happiness Trail: A romantic stroll through stages of love
Another highlight of Twin-Hearts Park is the Happiness Trail, which begins at two entrances near the Qiangu Dream-Weaving Net. This 135-meter-long wooden boardwalk offers a cool, shaded, and relaxing walk through nature and art.

Starting from the large red twin-heart landmark along the highway, visitors follow a path lined with a series of black-and-white anthropomorphic lighthouse couple sculptures. These endearing figures represent the evolving stages of love — “First Meeting,” “Invitation to Dance,” “Falling in Love,” “Proposal,” “Marriage,” and “Growing Old Together” — turning the trail into a symbolic journey of romance and connection.

Perfect for couples at every stage — from new romances to lifelong partnerships — the trail also offers picturesque backdrops that are ideal for photography and making memories.

Connecting to nature and nearby wonders
The Happiness Trail links seamlessly with surrounding attractions. A 20-minute walk north leads to the Fugui Cape Lighthouse, Taiwan’s northernmost point, offering sweeping coastal views. Continue onward to visit Fugui Cape Park and the renowned Laomei Green Reef, one of Taiwan’s top eight coastal wonders. Nearby, visitors will also find the Shimen Wedding Plaza, the first wedding-themed square in Taiwan, officially opened to the public in 2008.
